Highland's children's Sunday School has been blessed by its teachers who have a wealth of knowledge and experience. The literature is Bible-based. Once a month, the children meet together in the social hall for a program and to receive attendance awards. Prizes are given to those who have learned memory verses. The church gives Bibles to students in the third grade. The children present an annual Christmas pageant. On Palm Sunday, they march throughout the church singing and waving palm leaves. On Easter Sunday, they place lilies on the cross on the church lawn. Classes are scheduled to use the church library. Establishing a childhood habit of attending Sunday School regularly provides a wonderful foundation on which to build a life.

- The Sixth Grade Class participates in a 32-week (September - May) Confirmation class, Claim the Name. The class is taught by the church pastors. Through this class the students learn about Christianity and the United Methodist Church. During the summer, the sixth graders join the Jr. High Class.
- The JUNIOR HIGH CLASS (Seventh and Eighth Grade) uses Scripture to discuss Biblical history as well as issues relevant to what young teens face in today's society. Various teaching methods are used to educate the young minds.
- The SENIOR HIGH CLASS (Ninth-Twelfth Grade) is mostly discussion format with a Scriptural emphasis. The students discuss issues facing teens and current events. The class uses video and other media sources. The Senior High Class works with the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) on projects throughout the year.
Adult Ministry
- The DALTON / MCNEER CLASS has approximately 45 members. Dr. James McNeer has served as teacher since 1968. Materials for study are purchased from Cokesbury and include such series as "Journey through the Bible." The class has a diverse age group and includes both single and married people. Service activities include sponsoring needy families at Christmas and those who have special needs during the year, contributing to church projects such as sanctuary window restoration, and carpeting for the Sunday School Department. Social activities are enjoyed by the class members at the yearly Christmas party, summer picnics, and special dinners.
- The FAITHFINDERS SUNDAY CLASS has approximately 25 members. Karon Small is the teacher. It is a diverse group, ranging in age from mid 30's to mid 40's, some singles, some married. Some members have been at Highland all or most of their lives, while others are new to the church. Studies have included a Bible-based study on building self-esteem, and a six-month survival study which focused on dealing with anger and coping with difficult life situations, all from a Christian perspective. Some of their activities include: picnics, decorating the Chrismon tree, taking food to shut-ins, visiting the Convalescent Center, sponsoring a yearly spaghetti dinner with the profits going to various church needs, and either playing on or supporting the church softball team.
- The MARY MURPHY BIBLE CLASS has a membership of approximately 15 ladies ages 65 plus. This class joins the McAllister Friendship Class for their lesson. Activities include contributing to the Emergency Services, Children's Hospital, the Henry Fork Service Center, and to Nancy Bishop who is a Wyclif missionary translating the word of God for the Manqui people.
- The McALLISTER FRIENDSHIP BIBLE CLASS may be the oldest class at Highland. Walter George & Cathy Learnard Karns are the teachers. Average attendance is 21. The average age of members is estimated to be 70. Linda Morris serves as pianist and is the only woman in the class. The class project varies from year to year as the class attempts to "spread the wealth." At the end of each year, the treasury, except for a small portion to keep the class solvent, is donated to outside organizations as well as in-house projects.
-
The MORNING STAR CLASS consists of about 50 members. Charles Carper and Dorothy Crowder teach the class. The present curriculum is "Favorite Passages from the Bible." The class supports and participates in all church programs and activities, including fund-raising projects. It is quick to respond to those in need, both spiritually and financially, within the church family, community, and worldwide. Members enjoy singing and sing at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday worship service on the second Sunday of each month. The class also enjoys fellowship with social activities in the summer and at Christmas. Their creed is to learn about our Lord and fellowship together in Christian love.
- The DAY CLASS was named for Rev. Earl C. Day, Highland pastor from 1967-1971. Joey and Debbie Marshall teach the class. The age group of members is 40+, and they are parents of children ranging from elementary to college age. Studies are based on the Bible and include some books on current topics and adult study programs. Class discussion includes issues which affect people today and applying Christian principles in dealing with those issues.
